EV charging station coming to H-E-B lot

Water line update approved

The Hudson Oaks City Council considered a proposal by Rivian to add electric vehicle charging stations to the existing parking lot at the H-E-B store at its July 23 meeting.

The proposal called for 10 charging stations, power cabinets, and a utility transformer with additional landscape screening.

Director of Operations Lara Brown said none of the stations would be standard electric vehicle charging stations.

“However, given the demographics of this area, they’ve also included a charging stall for a pull-through trailer as well,” Brown said.

Representatives from GPD Group and Rivian LLC answered questions from the council. When asked if anyone with an EV can use the chargers, the Rivian representative said, “Anybody with any EV from any manufacturer is able to charge at our stations. And these are DC FC. So essentially, we’re taking energy from the grid at AC current and converting into DC fast-charging current in order to allow for the average EV to charge anywhere between 20 to 30 minutes tops.”

The proposal passed unanimously.

Diamond Oaks water line

Public Works Director Joshua Little reviewed for the council that the council issued tax and revenue certificates of obligation up to $12 million to finance infrastructure improvements. One of the projects in that package is the Diamond Oaks 12-inch water line extension.

Little said the project would “improve system pressure, transmission capacity, redundancy, and long-term service reliability while supporting continued residential and commercial growth” at a cost of about $1.2 million.

A&M Construction was the low bid, and the council voted unanimously to award the bid.

In other actions, the council:

  • Approved dedicating a .348-acre tract of land to Parker County to make room for a roundabout at the intersection of Oakridge and Red Eagle Trail;
  • Authorized the mayor to sign the 2026 audit engagement letter with George, Morgan & Sneed P.C. — the cost will be allocated in the FY26 budget not to exceed $27,000;
  • Voted to elect Daniel Cross as mayor pro tem; and
  • Approved a change in zoning at the location of Calvin Allen Saddlery to GC (General Commercial) to allow for a future commercial and heavy equipment rental store.
