Young netters look for another postseason trip

Posted

Weatherford Kangaroos/Lady Roos head tennis coach Wesley Kidd entered the 2026 season with a young team. However, he believes the returning varsity experience will lead the way as his team challenges to return to the Class 6A playoffs - a place they've gotten accustomed to reaching.

Weatherford has advanced to the postseason in four of Kidd's five seasons at the helm. Last season they placed fourth in district before falling to Southlake Carroll in bidistrict.

Returning for the WHS boys are seniors Brady Dearman and Will Snider, along with junior Omar Aguilera. Back for the girls are senior Addy Patterson and junior Addie Melven.

"We have good kids who work hard, have a lot that have played JV for a number of years and some young ones that are underclassmen as well," Kidd said.

Among highlights this season already are wins of 19-0 over Arlington Sam Houston in a District 3-6A match, with nondistrict convincing victories of 16-3 over Stephenville and 15-4 over Peaster.

The Kangaroos/Lady Roos find themselves with a new batch of district opponents this season. This season they are going up against perennial power Aledo, along with Granbury and Arlington schools Arlington High, Bowie, Sam Houston, Lamar and Martin.

"We have some tough teams added like Aledo, Martin, and Granbury.  We are hoping we can find our spot in the top four and make playoffs. That is always our goal," Kidd said. "We know we will compete each match to best of our ability and hope we can learn on the way and reach our goals for the year."
