Aledo Children’s AdvoCats, a nonprofit organization committed to raising funds for children and families in need in the Aledo area, has hired its first-ever executive director, Wesley Fuller.
Fuller is an Aledo resident and has worked in the nonprofit world for almost a decade. He began with mental health crisis work before joining Our Community Our Kids, where he currently works full-time as the community engagement supervisor – in addition to his position with AdvoCats.
AdvoCats work is volunteer-based. With the growing district and families in need, Fuller’s role will provide a continuous executive staff person. His time will be dedicated to “spreading the word, getting out in the community, letting people know what they do, why they're here, and then hopefully also doing a little bit of fundraising along with that because the needs of the kids are growing,” he said.
“Every counselor so far has said AdvoCats doesn't say, ’no.’ So whatever needs they've come up with that they take to AdvoCats, they have not said ‘no’ in the past, and that's something I hope we can remain true to,” Fuller said.
What drew Fuller to the work AdvoCats does is not only the similarities to the foster care work he does, but also the respect and dignity the nonprofit shows when serving families, he said.
“That's something that I'm passionate about,” he said.
Fuller began his position at AdvoCats on June 29, and he said he hopes to bring new ideas to the great work AdvoCats does for the community.
