Aledo alum Trace Mazon has committed to play for Coastal Carolina following his time with the Weatherford College Coyotes. As a freshman infielder with the Coyotes in 2023, Mazon batted .339 with three home runs, 65 runs batted in and 51 runs scored in 55 games.

Aledo Middle School had three teams finish second in the district cross country meet held recently.

The Aledo Anglers fishing team finished second out of 163 teams at the Lake Granbury Tournament recently. They were led by top-10 finishes by the teams of Mark Cerja/Miller Hill (third) and Aidan Bristow/Mason Nutt (eighth).
A and B won over Granbury, 24-6 and 35-7, respectively.
A Team won 57-0 over Granbury, while JV B defeated Stephenville 28-0.
Seventh grade: A Team lost 31-18, B Team won 8-0, C Team won 24-0.
Eighth grade: A Team won 47-19, B Team lost 25-12.
The Kangaroos Blue Team defeated North Crowley 8-6. Players of the Game are Aiden Halbert and Haidyn Olson.
The White Team also won 26-20 over North Crowley. Players of the Game are Caiden Guerra, Hunter Ferguson and Nick Soto.
The Gray Team won 34-6 over Paschal. Players of the Game: Jonathan Griggs, defense, and Taiten Powell, offense.

The Weatherford College men’s golf team competed against universities and top two-year colleges in the Herb Wimberly Memorial in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The tournament was held Oct. 14-15 at the New Mexico State University Golf Course. Aledo’s Braylan Mahanay and Giovanni Vezza and WC’s top finishers, tied for 23rd place out of 84 golfers at two over par over three rounds. Vezza (71-74-70) recorded five birdies in his final round Tuesday, climbing nine spots up the leaderboard for a strong finish. Mahanay’s best round was his first, carding four birdies. He shot 71-72-72.
As a team, WC finished in 12th place, turning in their best scores in the third round. After starting with a 291 in the first round and a 302 in the second, the Coyotes made a 15-stroke improvement in the final round at 287.
Host NMSU won the tournament, followed by Midland College, Texas A&M University-Commerce and University of the Incarnate Word.
The Coyotes are playing in the NJCAA National Preview at Sand Creek Station Golf Course in Newton, Kansas this weekend.
Graham Stowe of Aledo won first place in the Boys 11-12 division at the Northern Texas PGA Junior Golf Tour stop at Texas 9 in Fort Worth. He had a score of 45 over nine holes.
The 21st Annual Ladycat/Bearcat Fundraiser will be played Sunday, Oct. 27 at Split Rail Links and Golf Club. The event will feature lunch at 11:30 a.m. and a 1 p.m. shotgun start.

The Lady Roos placed fourth at Squaw Valley Golf Club in Glen Rose. They were led by freshman Ava Cordary, who was fourth individually with an 80.
The Kangaroos finished second at the Roo Invitational at Canyon West Golf. Logan Henn placed second individually.
The team also included Daniel Picasio, Mario Muniz, Jackson Lawless and Mason Johnston.
Jacee Graff brought home first place in goat tying for the Weatherford College rodeo team recently at the Clarendon College Rodeo. She placed first in both rounds with a 6.2 and a 6.1.
Catcher Gasperson finished second in steer roping with an 11.3.
Payton Andrus placed second in breakaway roping with a 5.1 on two while teammates Kaydence Tindal finished seventh and Kadi Fretwell 10th.
In team roping, Hunter Helton and Ryan Gorham’s 5.5 and 7.5 were good for second place. Cason Ritchie and Beldon Cox finished sixth and Cole Smith and Cashton Weidenbener placed eighth overall.
Jacoby Campbell finished eighth in bareback riding with 127 on two.
Tison defeated Brock. Players of the Match are Harper Millar and Anna Casey.
