Ladycats win, Bearcats second in Granbury

Stokes wins boys individual title

The Aledo Ladycats Black team posted a 45-stroke victory in winning the Granbury Invitational, while the Bearcats Black squad finished a stroke behind host Granbury Purple on March 13-14.

The Ladycats had a team score of 662, easily outdistancing runner-up Benbrook with a 707. Weatherford was third with a 717.

The Bearcats shot 626, while the Pirates won with a 625.

The tournament was played at DeCordova Bend Country Club (boys first day, girls second) and Harbor Lakes Golf Club (girls first day, boys second).

Also for the Bearcats, the Orange team placed ninth.

Individually, Braden Stokes of the Bearcats Black captured low medalist honors with a 150 over two days. The Ladycats were led by the third-place finish of Sydney Purdon, who shot 157 over two rounds.

Placing fifth individually for the Bearcats was Maddux Jessup with a 155, while Logan Lund was seventh with a 156. Four Ladycats broke the top 10 as Emily Crick took fifth at 162, Kylie Kirkland was sixth at 169 and Harper Price posted a 174 for eighth.

Ryland Haley also shot 170 for Aledo boys Black and Sydney Russell came home with a 185 for the girls Black, while Kenzie Todey posted a 202.

The boys Orange was topped by Tyler Anderson’s 159, followed by Andrew Todey with a 169, Ainsley English with a 172 and Pierce Russom at 174. Alex Dolman shot 88 on the first day but was unable to play the second.

The four lowest rounds each day comprised the team score.

Aledo Invitational

On March 12 at Squaw Creek, the Bearcats Orange placed fourth with a one-day score of 309, while the Bearcats White was seventh at 337. The Ladycats Orange was fifth among the girls, firing a 385.

Christian Moll of the Bearcats Orange placed ninth individually with a 76. Right behind were Russom and Today, each at 77, while English shot 79. Christian Aaron paced the Bearcats Orange with an 82, a stroke ahead of Archer English and Cain Goggans at 83 each, while Jack Hagood had an 89.

The low Aledo girls score was an 86 by medalist Addison Rush, which was fourth overall individually. Charlotte Roland had the low score for the Orange girls with a 92, while Libby Kirkland shot 96, Morgan Gahagan had a 97, Macy Martinak 100, and Emma Mangels 104.

The Bearcats Black, Orange, and White teams will compete in the District 5-5A Preview Tournament March 25 at Cross Timbers in Azle. The district tournament will be played on the same course on March 30-31.

The Ladycats Black and Orange teams will compete in their 5-5A Preview on March 26, followed by the district tournament April 1-2. Both of these events will also be at Cross Timbers.
