The Bearcats almost doubled runner-up Granbury in the varsity boys division, scoring 169.33 points to 88.33 for the Pirates and Weatherford was third with 69. The Ladycats scored 169 to top Argyle with 148 and Weatherford 94.
“It’s always good to dominate your home meet,” Bearcats coach Andrew Clark said. “Kids ran great. Times are dropping, getting it all in pieced together for district in a few weeks.”
Individually, Isaac Brooks led Aledo, winning three gold medals for the Bearcats. He won the 110-meter and 300 hurdles, along with running a leg of the first place 4x400 relay.
Tyler Connelly won two gold medals for the Bearcats, taking first in the 1600 and 3200. Also winning gold for the Aledo boys was Carson Dempsey in the shot put, along with the 4x200 relay.
The Ladycats were led by a pair of gold medals won by Sawyer Voight in the 300 hurdles and long jump and Mykel Murry’s top performances in the 400 and as part of the 4x400 relay. Also, Sofia Brandenburg won an individual gold medal in the 800.
The JV Bearcats did, indeed, more than double second place Weatherford’s score, posting 228 points to 104 for the Kangaroos. Meanwhile, the Ladycats tallied 174.33 to easily outdistance the second place Lady Roos with 117.
“The teams both competed really well. I am very proud of their work ethic and the way they challenge themselves to improve,” Ladycats coach Mike Pinkerton said. “We still have room for improvement in all areas. We should really hit our stride at the district meet.”
The Bearcats and Ladycats are back in competition March 26 at the Weatherford Roo Relays.
