Wrestling: Aledo grapplers get season underway

Anderson captures silver for boys

The Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats wrestling teams got the season underway at the Talon Invitational at Haslet Eaton High School Nov. 14-15.

Highlighting Aledo results was a second place finish in the boys 126-pound weight class by Chandler Anderson. He posted a 5-1 record.

Also for the Bearcats, Cameron Robbins placed fifth in the 113 class, as did Cam Berera in the 285 division. Ian Cosby took sixth in the 190 category.

On the girls varsity side, Madison Elliott battled to a sixth place finish in the 170 class.

“Our varsity boys and girls teams had a strong showing at the Talon Tournament this weekend, kicking off the season against a highly competitive field filled with ranked wrestlers and top programs from across the state,” Aledo coach Ben Shaw said.

The Bearcats’ collective performance earned them an eighth-place team finish in the 30-team field. The Ladycats were 16th as a team.

Also posting a winning record in their weight classes for the Bearcats were Dylan Chandler, 120, 4-2; Brice Bohn, 132, 4-2; Will Reese, 175, 4-2; Cade Rangel, 215, 4-2; and Noah Chasteen, 144, 4-3.

Also winning most of their matches for the Ladycats were Joy Stephens, 120, 4-2; and Grace Beasley, 110, 2-1.

“This was a challenging season opener, and our athletes proved they can compete

with some of the best in the state,” Shaw said. “It was a great way to start the year, and we look forward to building on this momentum next week at the Nest Invitational in Azle.”
