Weatherford College has added women’s cross country and half marathon to its athletic programs. The team will make history by competing for the first time at the University of Texas at Tyler on Sept. 5.
The team includes two Parker County athletes, freshmen Alyson Barco of Springtown and Azucena Neri of Azle.
“I think it’s a great opportunity for both the people of Weatherford and for me to be part of such a strong athletic environment,” Coach James Majenge said. “Cross country and track and field are universal sports. Having these programs at Weatherford College benefits not only the institution but also the local community.
“It gives talented athletes from the area an opportunity to stay close to home while pursuing both their academic and athletic goals.”
Majenge comes to WC from Ranger College, where he led the women’s cross country team to a ninth place national finish in 2025 and a 15th place finish for the men. The Ranger women were third in the nation in half marathon, the school’s first podium finish at the national level in any sport in five years.
