The Weatherford Art Association (WAA) announced the winners of its July Artist of the Month competition, highlighting the creativity and talent of its local artist members.
The monthly competition allows WAA artists to showcase their work while competing for first, second, and third place honors. Selected pieces are displayed throughout the community at local Weatherford banks and at the Weatherford City Hall, giving residents and visitors the opportunity to experience a wide variety of artistic styles and mediums. First place winners also advance as candidates for the prestigious Artist of the Year award, which is determined by a membership vote each June.
First Place was awarded to Joyce Pinkerton for her watercolor painting “WildFlower Hills.”She was inspired by the three weeks on her farm where the coreopsis grow, and it just covers the hills into a sea of wildflowers. Pinkerton’s winning artwork will be exhibited at the Hudson Oaks City Hall throughout July.
Second Place honors went to Patricia Harder for her watercolor painting titled “Rainbow Trout Family.” Patricia was inspired by her son’s ministry in the mountains in Idaho that serves police and firemen. They have a big log cabin lodge there and he asked her to create a painting of rainbow trout for it. She painted four saying of each, “The first one looked like a cross between a fish and a sea serpent. The other three turned out good, so it was a lot of fun.” Her painting will be displayed at First Bank Texas in Weatherford during the month of July.
Third Place was awarded to Michael McCarty for his vase “Turn Me Over.” Michael had for a long time wanted a lathe, and six months ago, he finally got one, eventually working his way up to this beautiful vase. His artwork will be on display this month at the Worth Credit Union on South Main Street in Weatherford.
