WC tennis moves up to ninth

The Weatherford College women’s tennis team moved from 14th place to ninth place after the second day of action on Sunday, May 8 at the NJCAA National Tournament in Tucson, Arizona.

Weatherford trailed Collin College by only 2.5 points (19.5 total points). There was a five-way tie at the top of the standings between Cowley College (Kansas), Hillsborough Community College (Florida), Seward County Community College (Kansas), St. Petersburg College (Florida) and Tyler Junior College at 27 total points.

Weatherford had a big day in singles play. Weatherford’s No. 1, Ana Khrustaleva, defeated Alexandra Mille of South Carolina-Sumter, 6-2, 6-1.

Mia Milojevic topped Isabella Warham of Meridian Community College (Mississippi), 6-1, 6-2.

Agathe Vaillant beat Myesha Nealon from Hinds College (Mississippi) 6-1, 6-2.

Marija Ristanovic took on Paula Curci of Barton College (Kansas) and won handedly, 6-1, 6-1.

The winning streak continued with a Lina Brandt victory over Coastal Alabama’s Emma Spears, 6-0, 6-1.

In doubles, Khrustaleva and Markovic won their match 8-1.

Vaillant and Milojevic lost to Collin’s Taylor Nichols and Viktoriia Federova, 1-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Ristanovic and Brandt lost their second round match, 6-1.
