Volleyball: Lady Eagles eager to build upon foundation with new faces

TCA aims for another strong showing in district, postseason

The Trinity Christian Lady Eagles volleyball team showed a great deal of improvement from 2023 to 2024. After missing the postseason two years ago, the Lady Eagles nabbed third place in a competitive TAPPS 4A District I league and advanced to the postseason. Even though five seniors graduated from last year’s team, the Lady Eagles are eager and confident with this year’s group along with the knowledge and skills they learned last year.

“Although we graduated five seniors, we are excited for the new faces and talent joining the High School Volleyball Program,” Lady Eagles head coach Katherine Mullen said. “A great strength of ours is that we have many all-around athletes who are able to step into any position and perform.”

Scrappy effort and sharing common goals will help aid in every hustle attempt, pass, and block alike for TCA. Additionally, it will provide this year’s Lady Eagles squad with a highly versatile roster with plenty of options for Mullen game-to-game.

“Since a lot of our girls can play multiple positions, it gives us a lot of depth,” Mullen said. “Therefore we have many options when it comes to defense and rotations.”

Some key returners for the 2025 varsity squad include: sophomore middle Kami James (’24 1st Team All-District); senior outside hitter Emily Ickert (’24 1st Team All-District); sophomore outside hitter Paisley James (’24 2nd Team All-District); sophomore setter Alex Ickert (’24 2nd Team All-District); and senior libero/defensive specialist Berlynn Kaznowski (’24 Honorable Mention All-District). Furthermore, Mullen said fans should watch out for newcomers Molly Speaks and Lyla Kloven.

After the resurgent season they just experienced, Mullen and the Lady Eagles aim to keep the positive momentum moving in the right direction, and they are ready to do so with the right mindset.

“Coming off a strong third-place finish in district last season, our first goal this year is to compete with heart and determination as we set our sights on becoming district champions,” Mullen said. “Over the past few years, we’ve worked hard to build a positive, Christ-centered culture within our volleyball program — one rooted in character, commitment, and unity. This season, we will continue to grow that foundation by developing Christ-like character, encouraging each other both on and off the court, and creating a sisterhood that lasts well beyond the game.”
