While it was technically a bye week competition-wise for the rest of the Aledo track program, a host of pole vaulters made their way up the road to Springtown to compete in the Pojo Relays on March 20. They returned with a bag full of medals, including four gold.
Braylon Brown once again cleared 16 feet with his vault of 16-0, winning by two feet over runner-up and teammate Adam Averett, with another teammate, Kantyn Kasich, taking third at 13-6.
Ladycat Emma Ralph cleared 11 feet to win the girls competition, and teammate Maggie Kilburn placed second with a 10-6 vault. Claire Campbell of Aledo was fourth at 10-0.
The Aledo junior varsity also had a pair of gold medal vaulters. Jace Schull cleared 11-6 to win among the boys and Kara Overstreet’s vault of 10-0 won among the girls, with Elizabeth Gamez taking third at 7-6.
Weatherford had one athlete place in the meet as well. Braelee Gilbert had a throw of 118-6 for the runner-up spot in the varsity girls discus throw.
The Bearcats and Ladycats were back in action as an entire team at press time at Saginaw Chisholm Trail. They will compete in the District 5-5A Meet on Wednesday, April 2 at Saginaw High School.
Weatherford teams will compete in the District 3-6A Meet at Saginaw Boswell High School on April 2-3.
The Trinity Christian Academy Eagles and Lady Eagles competed in the Wildcat Relays in Santo on March 20.
Kadin James (shot put, discus) and Owen Coates (110-meter hurdles, long jump) each won two gold medals to pace the Eagles. Avery Huffman (long jump) and Ella Cockrum (discus) each won a gold medal for the Lady Eagles.
