The road to better health leads to Destination Chiropractic

The seeds of Dr. Tanner Kurz’ profession of advanced neurological chiropractic care were planted at a young age.

Tanner and his fraternal twin, Seth, led a busy life in their growing-up years. They were active in sports and participated in outdoor activities like hunting and fishing.

Between the ages of 9-10 Seth developed severe back pain.

“The pain was debilitating, to the point where my parents were trying to use every option of doctors, medication, all sorts of things,” Dr. Kurz said, “and they found that all the doctors just gave him pretty temporary relief.”

Surgery was an option, but their mother decided against it.

“He had a major 40 degree S-curve from mid back or neck, mid back, and low back, so it spanned the entire spine,” Dr. Kurz said. “So my mom, knowing he’s only 9-10 years old, there’s no point in getting these surgeries or these procedures that he’d have to just re-do in probably a decade or less — especially because we were both swimmers growing up. We would do a lot of flip turns, so he’d have to stop that all completely.”

The family lived in Delaware, and their mother found a neurological chiropractor who had studied at Parker University in Dallas. After a few treatments, Seth started to show improvement, and many of his symptoms were resolved.

Those symptoms included severe back pain, digestive issues, breathing issues, and impaired movement functionality. He also suffered from migraines.

“The chiropractor only adjusted my brother and realigned the spine. And I thought that was the coolest thing ever,” Dr. Kurz said. “He didn’t have to take anything out, didn’t have to put anything in. Just used what God gave us and rewired it, essentially, because it blew a fuse, if you will. My brother still has scoliosis because he was born with it, but through chiropractic care, he didn’t have to get all the other modalities that were presented to him. So over time, he still has to go on a maintenance track, but it saved his spine.”

Seth was so improved that the brothers swam together in Division I competition all four years at Indiana University.

When Tanner was trying to decide what to do after college, because of his brother’s experience, he went to shadow the chiropractor who had treated his brother. The doctor only had an hour to give, but that was all it took to convince Tanner to follow that path, including study at Parker University.

“During chiropractic school, I not only got a doctorate in chiropractic, but also masters in neurology, because they really go hand in hand. You can’t really adjust the spine, thinking it’s just a bone issue, when really it’s truly a nerve issue that controls the bones and the muscles,” he said.

Tanner graduated right in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic and joined a large chiropractic office in New York, where he learned to run a business. He wanted to come back to Texas, and went to work with a chiropractor in Fort Worth for 3 years. Wanting to own his own practice led him to Weatherford, where he set up his practice, Destination Chiropractic.

There was a non-compete with the doctor in Fort Worth that led him to Weatherford, where he set up his practice, Destination Chiropractic.

What is Neurological Chiropractic?

“It’s basically focusing on the central nervous system,” Dr. Kurz explained. “The technique that I use is called the torque release technique. It’s actually one of the newest techniques in chiropractic.”

While chiropractic is often associated with twisting, cracking, and popping, torque release is different.

Torque release is a gentle and specific chiropractic technique focused on the nervous system, utilizing scientific methods and advanced tools to correct misalignment without twisting or popping, targeting only the necessary adjustments identified through neurological reflexes.

“There’s only certain bones that your nervous system actually attaches to,” Dr. Kurz said. “When those go out of alignment, it causes everything else down below to be jacked up, if you will.”

The technique is a gentle way of pinpointing the sources of pain and discomfort.

If you are suffering joint issues, have migraines, or are dealing with pain, Dr, Kurz can help.
