Tennis: Racquet Cats continue district dominance

Clinch tie for league title

Posted

The Aledo Racquet Cats continue to dominate foes in District 5-5A, the latest being Keller Fossil Ridge. Aledo was on the road and won 19-0 on Sept. 23.

So dominant were the Racquet Cats that they did not drop a single set in the match. In games played with the individual matches, Aledo won 261 and lost just 54 in a total of 25 contests, that included six extra matches - also all won by Aledo - that did not count in the team score.

The Racquet Cats improved to 5-0 in league play, clinching no worse than a tie for the district championship, and 15-2 overall. They were ending the regular season with a match at Saginaw Chisholm Trail at press time.

In boys singles, Ben Kurth posted a double-bagel sweep, winning 6-0, 6-0. Lila Satterfield did the same in girls singles.

Some of the matches were pro sets with the first one to win eight games taking the match. In those, Mason Peters won 8-0 for the boys, while Kjersten Loy and Vivian Beeby won 8-0 among the girls.

Three other matches were almost sweeps as Fossil Ridge managed a single victory.

The Racquet Cats will play in bi-district early next week.
