Through their 2-0 start to league play, they have literally dominated their two opponents, winning 35 of the 38 matches played. After opening with an 18-1 win at Brewer, they returned home to trounce Granbury 17-2 on the Aledo courts on Tuesday, Aug 26.
“It was nice to see our players play with passion and play so well against a very good district opponent,” Aledo coach Joe McCoy said.
In improving to 11-2 overall, the Racquet Cats won all of 15 of their 17 matches against the Pirates and Lady Pirates via a sweep. In a couple of matches, Lila Satterfield won in singles, 6-0, 6-0, then combined with Sydney Byrd to win by that same score in doubles.
Vivian Beeby also won with a shutout, taking an 8-0 victory in a pro-set match in girls singles.
The team also came within one game of sweeping two other matches and within two games of sweeping two more.
The two most exciting matches of the day also resulted in Aledo victories in boys singles. Paxton Psencik outlasted his opponent, 6-2, 4-6 and 12-10 in a marathon third set. Also, Noah Nottingham survived, 6-1, 3-6, 11-9.
Aledo was hosting Birdville in a non-district match at press time. The Racquet Cats return to district play on Tuesday, Sept. 9 when they host Saginaw at 4 p.m.
