The Trinity Christian Eagles boys basketball team, off to a red-hot start to the regular season, rode the bus to Waco to compete in the Bill Borg Holiday Classic hosted by Vanguard College Preparatory School from Thursday through Saturday. The Eagles were able to win their opener, but ultimately dropped the following three contests despite remaining competitive against the difficult field of teams.
The Eagles, still trying to manage without injured senior starting guards Reed Robbins and Sam Carson, earned a 12-point victory over Coram Deo Academy in Flower Mound. In that game, head coach Jeff Peterson praised his team’s defensive effort in helping them secure the victory.
Then, TCA fell behind by 12 points in the first quarter against Veritas Academy in Austin. Despite only getting outscored by two in the remaining three quarters, the Eagles were not able to make up the difference in the second game.
After that, Trinity Christian lost games to Hillsboro High School and Vanguard by seven and two points, respectively. Senior forward Cole Massey was selected to the all-tournament team after averaging 14 points and seven rebounds across four games.
Next, the Eagles (17-5) will travel to take on Ovilla Christian School in Red Oak at 2:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 3.
