Posted

The District 3-6A cross country meet is Thursday, Oct. 15, at AP Ranch in Fort Worth, and Aledo and Weatherford runners have turned in the best times so far this season, according to the race results at athletic.net.

The Bearcats have their top seven personal records (PRs) listed among the district’s best eight. The Ladycats are similar with their top four PRs being placed in the top seven and top seven placing in the top 20 in the district.

Aledo’s Tyler Connelly and Holland Gladchuk also are listed as first in the district. Connelly’s PR of 14 minutes, 35 seconds being more than a minute faster than the second-best runner, and Gladchuk’s PR of 17:58 is10 seconds faster than second best.

“The expectations are for all our teams to run the way they are capable of,” Aledo cross country coach Mike Pinkerton said. “If everyone does their part we will be successful. These runners have been putting in the work since August, preparing for this meet.”

For Weatherford, the Lady Roos have their top four runners listed in the top 10 and top seven runners listed in the top 24. Remi Boone, who has qualified individually for the state meet three times, has the second-best time of 18:08.

The Weatherford boys team has four of its top runners inside the top 20 runners in district. The top seven runners for the Roos are among the top 27 runners. Aiden Breaux’s PR of 16:15 is good for seventh-best within the district.

Weatherford coach Van Green knows both teams have to run their best if they want to advance to the regional meet.

“Our boys’ team will be missing our top runner, but the rest of the team is motivated to run well in support of their teammate,” Green said. “They are looking forward to the challenge of competing for a top-three finish. Aside from Boone and Ordonez, the girls’ team is extremely young, but they remain very competitive. Overall, the whole team is looking forward to the district meet and giving it their best effort.”

Only the top three teams and the top 10 individuals not on those three teams qualify for the regional meet.

The district race is set to start at 9 a.m. at AP Ranch in Fort Worth on Thursday, Oct. 15.
