Area runners among state leaders

Several runners from area schools are ranked among the state’s best in their respective classifications by MileSplit Texas.

6A boys (5K): 6. Tyler Connelly, Aledo, 14 minutes, 35 seconds in the Coach T Invitational in Flower Mound.

6A girls (5K): 9. Holland Gladchuk, Aledo, 17:58 in Kennedale Wildcat Run; 15. Remington Boone, Weatherford, 18:08 in Coach T Invitational.

TAPPS boys (5K): 3. Jacob Soto, Trinity Christian Academy, 15:22 in Coach T Invitational.

TAPPS girls (2 mile): 17. Evelyn Woody, Weatherford Christian, 12:33 in Keene Cross Country Invitational.

 

Tison, Hall runners compete in Glen Rose

Tison Middle School and Hall Middle School competed Sep. 9 in the Dinosaur Valley Invitational in Glen Rose. Leading each team were:

Seventh-grade boys: 9. Emersyn Thien, Hall, 15:04.74; 13. Emerson Locklear, Tison, 15:40.50.

Seventh-grade girls: 4. Lucinda Scott, 13:39.68; 8. Ellie Whiteman, Hall, 14:16.12; 11. Scarlett Rivera, Hall, 14:29.74.

Eighth-grade boys: 4. Aiden Wallace, Hall, 12:03.82.

 

FOOTBALL

Aledo’s Hull honored

Aledo Bearcats senior Cooper Hull was named a Jimmy Dean Scholar Athlete recently. He received a scholarship check from the Jimmy Dean corporation and “Dave Campbell’s Texas Football” magazine.

 

Hall 8th vs. Granbury

A won 34-0.

B won 42-0.

Players of the game: Mason Spivey, Jackson Sherrod, Ethan Morgan, Brayden Vela, and Grayson Adams.

 

GOLF

Bearcat/Ladycat Fundraiser

The 23rd Annual Bearcat/Ladycat Fundraiser golf tournament will be held Oct. 25 at Squaw Creek Golf Course. Lunch is served at 11:30 a.m. and the tournament begins at 1 p.m.

LACROSSE

Aledo fall sixes are back

The Aledo LaCrosse club is bringing back Fall Sixes starting Oct. 4. This is a fast-paced, condensed version of the game featuring six players per team with a 30-second shot clock and played on a smaller field.

The format is also focused on skill development with more touches and more decision-making opportunities. Each session will include skill work, sixes concepts, and competitive intra-club scrimmages.

The season runs through Nov. 8 with a play day/mini-tournament to wrap up the final day of competition.

RODEO

WC home event set

The Weatherford College rodeo team will host its second annual Lone Star Region Rodeo on Oct. 9-10 at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Arena. Competition begins at 6:30 each evening.

 

TENNIS

Aledo Pickleball Fundraiser

The Third Annual Aledo High School Tennis Pickleball Fundraiser will be held Nov. 7 from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. at the AHS courts. Proceeds benefit the AHS tennis program.

Cost to enter the double-elimination doubles tournament is $80 and each entry gets a free T-shirt. Competition will feature multiple brackets.

In case of rain, the tournament will be moved to Nov. 14.

 

VOLLEYBALL

Lady Roos reach milestones

Two members of the Weatherford Lady Roos have reached career milestones this season. Hayden Faught has registered 500 defensive digs and Laine Tomlinson has 500 kills.

 

WC duo conference Players of the Week

For the third consecutive week, at least one player from the Weatherford College volleyball team has earned Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Week honors. Mirabel Onyegwu was named the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Alena Lopez earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.

Onyegwu and Lopez are the third and fourth Coyotes to earn the honor this season, joining teammates Glorybell Puente (defensive, Week 1) and Beline Thibaut (offensive, Weeks 1 and 2).

Onyegwu, an outside hitter from Nigeria, played in 19 sets and recorded 65 kills on 161 attacks, averaging 3.4 kills and 3.5 points per set. She also logged 63 digs and 12 block assists.

Lopez, a libero from Saginaw, also appeared in 19 sets. She charted 68 digs, 21 assists and three aces, averaging four digs per set.

 

AVC tryouts

The Aledo Volleyball Club will host tryouts for its Bruisers program Sep. 19. Grades 1-2 are from 9-10 a.m., 3-4 from 10:15-11:15 a.m. and 5-6 from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m.

The season begins Sep. 28 and runs Nov. 21.

Volley Tots scheduled

The Aledo Volleyball Club is hosting Volley Tots for ages 4-6 from 4-5 p.m. Oct. 5, 12, 19 and 26. Classes will consist of age-appropriate drills.

Eighth grade: A team won 25-16, 22-25, 16-14; B won 25-16, 25-10; C lost 26-24, 17-25, 8-15.

Seventh grade: A won 25-20, 25-22; B won 25-21, 20-25, 15-4; C won 25-9, 22-25, 15-5.

 

McAnally vs. Mansfield Jones

Eighth grade: A team won 25-13, 25-12; B won 25-14, 25-15; C won 25-23, 25-9.

Seventh grade: A lost 8-25, 9-25; B lost 17-25, 12-25; C lost 15-25, 14-25.

 

Aledo subvarsity vs. Granbury

Junior varsity won 25-13, 25-17.

Freshmen A won 25-20, 25-17.

Freshmen B won 25-5, 25-8.
