WC women third, men fourth at Ruidoso
Weatherford College’s golf teams made a strong showing in Ruidoso, New Mexico, with standout individual performances and record-breaking scores at the Poss High Country Shootout recently.
WC’s Corrina Haros tied for seventh place individually among the women, shooting 7-over par 149 (75-74).
“Our women’s team established itself as a top team in the region this week, competing well against the best,” said Dave Rennhack, WC head golf coach. “We have a very young and talented team. I expect them to be ranked near the top when the first set of rankings comes out.”
The Coyotes played their best golf in the third round, shooting nine strokes lower than in round two.
“We shot 18-under Tuesday, that may be a single-day scoring record for WC,” WC coach Rennhack said. “I believe 39 under par for 54 holes is also a new record.”
Michael Mayer led Weatherford on the individual leaderboard, tied for seventh at 13 under (72-63-68).
WC to host home Lone Star Region Rodeo
With the reorganization of the National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association, Weatherford College will now host a home rodeo on an annual basis. The inaugural WC Lone Star Region Rodeo will take place Oct. 9-11 at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse grounds.
This new opportunity for a home rodeo is a result of the NIRA splitting the large Southwest Region into two smaller, more manageable regions. WC joins Angelo State University, Cisco College, Ranger College, Sul Ross State University, Tarleton State University and Vernon College in the newly-formed Lone Star Region.
The rodeo will feature more than 500 contestant runs.
Concerts are scheduled to follow each of the rodeo performances. Sonny Burgess will perform Friday night and the Rowdy Decker Band on Saturday.
Sponsorships are also being offered starting at $300.
Pickleball tourney
The 2nd Annual Aledo High School Pickleball Fundraiser will be held on Saturday, Oct. 25 at the AHS courts from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Proceeds go to improving the AHS tennis facilities.
Rain date is Nov. 1.
Entry fee for the doubles tournament, which is double-elimination, is $80 per team. T-shirts to those who register.
The tournament will have multiple brackets. There will also be food trucks and raffles.
