VOLLEYBALL

WC receives numerous accolades

After a perfect 18-0 conference record (32-2 overall), the NJCAA Region V Tournament championship and their third consecutive national tournament berth, the No. 2 Weatherford College volleyball team was recognized by the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference with several seasonal awards.

For the fourth consecutive year, head coach Kailee May has been named the NTJCAC Coach of the Year. May has been with the Coyotes since the program began in 2022.

A newcomer to the WC volleyball team, freshman Beline Thibaut was named the NTJCAC Player of the Year. Hailing from Velaux, France, Not only did Thibaut receive back-to-back Player of the Week accolades, but she was only one of two players to be awarded twice in consecutive weeks for separate performances on offense and defense.

For the second time in two years, Kiana Souza was tapped as the Defensive Player of the Year. Weronika Urbanska earned the Offensive Player of the Year award after being recognized as the Player of the Year last season.

Victoria Sanchez awarded the NTJCAC Setter of the Year.Sanchez also earned a spot on the all-conference team for her performance in the Region V Tournament.

Thibaut, Souza, Urbanska and Sanchez were four of six total players to earn a spot on the first team all-conference and all-region. This is the second time Souza and Urbanska have been named to first team all-conference and all-region, and the first time for Thibaut and Sanchez.

Rounding out the first team all-conference from WC are Glorybell Puente, Gabbie Maldonado and Mirabel Onyegwu. This is the second time in two years Maldonado has been named First Team All-Conference, and the first time for Puente and Onyegwu.

Freshman Glorybell Puente not only earned a spot on the first team all-conference, but she was also awarded Most Outstanding Player for her performance throughout the Region V Tournament, securing a spot on the Region V All-Tournament Team.

Gabbie Maldonado earned her second first team all-conference accolade in two years, alongside a spot on the all-tournament team for her performance in the Region V Tournament hosted by WC.

Two members of the WC Volleyball team earned a place on the all-conference second team: freshman Alena Lopez and freshman Ally McCabe.

 

BASKETBALL

Roos open with win

The Weatherford Kangaroos defeated visiting Frisco Rock Hill 68-50 on Nov. 14 to open the season.

The Kangaroos are at L.D. Bell on Nov. 24 and host Cleburne on Nov. 25, both games starting at 2 p.m.

 

Lady Roos third in tourney

The Weatherford Lady Roos placed third in the Mavs Classic in Frisco Nov. 13-15. They improved to 5-1.

Weatherford defeated Frisco 46-34 and Mansfield Timberview 42-41 before falling 58-46 to Plano. They defeated Sherman 56-43 for third.

Weatherford hosts Arlington Martin on Nov. 21 at 6 p.m. hosts Joshua on Nov. 24 at 11:30 a.m. and visits Birdville Nov. 25 at noon.

 

GOLF

Lady Roos JV fourth

The Weatherford junior varsity Lady Roos turned in a strong performance on Nov. 12, finishing fourth overall at the Links at the Lake Tournament hosted by Arlington Martin at Lake Arlington Golf Course.

Addison Parks shot an 87 to place fourth individually.

 

Roos fourth in tourney

The Weatherford Kangaroos closed out their fall season at Squaw Creek Golf Course with a fourth-place team finish and a score of 317. The top two individual finishers for the Kangaroos were Carter Bruton, second, 73; and Dylan Sinning, sixth, 76.

Prior to that, the Kangaroos and Lady Roos competed in the Texas Two Step Invitational at Tangle Ridge Golf Club. The Kangaroos shot 651 for two days, with Bruton placing seventh individually with a 149 score.

The Lady Roos were also in that tournament, placing fourth with a 696. Ava Cordary was eighth individually with a 164.

 

RODEO

WC named women’s team champions at Vernon Rodeo

The Weatherford College Rodeo team returned victorious from the Vernon College Rodeo recently, ending the first half of the 2025-26 season as it began - with the women's team championship.

Acey Pinkston won barrel racing, totaling a 36.18 score. Kacey Bass was named reserve champion (second) with a 36.71.

Mitchie Story scored 163.5 to win saddle bronc.

In breakaway roping, Brooke Crenshaw posted a 9.2 to take second.

Representing WC in team roping, Hunter Helton and his partner Rylin Scheller (Ranger College) scored 20.4 to win.

The Weatherford College Rodeo team will be back in action in 2026 for the Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo on Feb. 2-4 at Dickies Arena in Fort Worth.
