BASEBALL

Barnes an all-star

Aledo Bearcats senior Landon Barnes has been selected to play in the 2026 Texas High School Baseball Coaches All-Star Game on Sunday, June 14. He will participate in the Class 5A-6A contest.

This is one of the highest honors for a Texas high school baseball player.

The game will be played at Dell Diamond in Round Rock.

WC to host first super regional

For the first time, the Weatherford College baseball team is hosting the NJCAA Southwest District Super Regional Tournament, which started Thursday and ends this weekend at Roger Williams Ballpark.

The four-team bracket will follow a double-elimination format, with the winner advancing to the NJCAA Division I World Series in Grand Junction, Colorado. The Coyotes were last there in 2023, finishing third.

Midland College (47-10, ranked No. 9 in the country) is the No. 1 seed in the super regional, followed by 2 seed Weatherford (39-18, ranked No. 21), 3 seed McLennan Community College (45-11, ranked No. 10), and 4 seed Howard College (31-25).

The championship game set for 3 p.m. Saturday and the “if necessary” game Sunday at 1 p.m.

The Coyotes enter the super regional after a two-game sweep of New Mexico Military Institute last week in the first round of the regional postseason. Weatherford earned the right to host this week’s super regional as the highest remaining seed from the NTJCAC.

WC entered the tourney having won eight straight games and 14 of its last 15. Per-day admission is $10 for adults and $5 for seniors and school-aged children. Passes are available for purchase online at weatherfordcollege.simpletix.com.

All games will be live-streamed on tsbnsports.com.
