BASEBALL

State title monument to be unveiled

The Aledo Bearcats’ 2025 Class 5A Division I state championship monument will be unveiled prior to the team’s home against Brewer on Wednesday, Mar. 11. The event will take place at 6:30 p.m. at Bearcat Baseball Stadium.

Kangaroos go 5-1 in tourney

In a tournament in the San Antonio area this past weekend, the Weatherford Kangaroos (7-5) won five of six games. They won against Victoria East 5-3, Medina Valley 9-6, New Braunfels 11-5, Del Valle 3-1, and Alexander 6-5 before losing 7-5 to Georgetown.

Coyotes have explosive weekend

In three games this past weekend, the Weatherford College Coyotes (9-8) outscored their opponents 43-27, winning twice. They lost to Odessa College 16-10 and bounced back to defeat Midland College 14-2 and 19-9.

CHEERLEADING

Brown all-state

Emma Brown of Weatherford High School has been named Class 6A All-State by the Texas Girls Coaches Association.

GOLF

Weatherford JV girls win tourney

The Lady Roos junior varsity captured the championship of the Eagle Invitational at The Golf Club at The Resort in Fort Worth recently. Addison Parks took first place individually with a 77.

The Kangaroos JV placed fourth, led by Judson Spikes with an 87.

Coyotes win again

The Weatherford College men’s golf team captured the North Central Texas College Spring Invitational title, beating out No. 2, No. 3, and No. 4 ranked teams in the nation. The Coyotes are now officially ranked No. 5. This was their second straight tournament to win.

Lady Coyotes second in tourney

The No. 7 nationally ranked Lady Coyotes secured a second-place finish at the Thunderbird Invitational hosted by New Mexico Junior College, overcoming No. 5 New Mexico and No. 8 Barton. Emily Gutierrez led the way with a fifth-place individual finish.

114 weight class: 2. Brody Schabow, 500 pounds lifted.

123: 2. Christian Andrews, 690; 3. Case Westmoreland, 660.

132: 3. Jonathan Griggs, 920.

148: 2. Clayton Fontenot, 1,120.

Lady Roos qualify six for state

With an overall team finish of second, the Weatherford Lady Roos qualified six competitors for the girls state powerlifting meet from their regional competition recently. State is March 20 in Edinburg.

Qualifying were Anissa Dearman, Caroline Couch, Selah Galindo, Kylie Baruch, Analia Barcenas (regional champion), and Sophie McCloskey.

Weatherford Lady Roos 3, North Crowley 1

Goals: Stella Adams 2, Haley Wolfsen.

Assists: Landree Cooper 3.

Players of the Game: Adams, Jayden Wright, Mia Saldivar.

The Lady Roos are now 15-1-2 overall and 7-1-1 in District 3-6A. Since 2024 they are 50-5-6 overall and 29-3-3 in district.

TENNIS

Another split for WC

On the courts against University of Texas-Dallas, the Weatherford College men’s team claimed a 5-2 victory, while the women’s team fell 6-1. Benjamin Asker, Julian Blainey, and Kshirin Wakalkar each had winning performances.
