AWARDS

Brock players named TSWA All-State in softball

Four members of the Brock Lady Eagles were honored recently by the Texas Sports Writers Association as Class 4A All-State in softball. Receiving accolades were sophomore pitcher Allison Coleman on the second team, while freshmen Sloan Booth (second base), Laynie Marriott (outfield), and Jayci Smith (outfield) are honorable mentions.

The Lady Eagles advanced to the Class 4A Division II state final before falling to Liberty, ending the season with a 32-11 record.

CLAY SHOOTING

Aledo Clay Busters

Aledo Clay Busters will hold tryouts at 6 p.m. on Aug. 5 at Fort Worth Trap & Skeet, 1064 Ranch to Market Rd. 2871. It is open to students in grades 5-12, new or returning members.

Athletes will meet coaches and fellow shooters and learn about the coming season. Expectations, cost, and scheduling for the coming season will be discussed.

FOOTBALL

Girls flag football clinics 

Aledo High School is exploring starting girls flag football as a school club sport playing in the Dallas Cowboys Girls Flag Football League this coming school year. If you’re an incoming girl in grades 9-12 who is interested, you’re invited to one or both of the upcoming interest clinics. Each clinic lasts from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on July 19 and Aug. 2 and will be held at Vierling Field (DNG field).

FISHING

Aledo quartet competes in Angler of Year event

Four participants from the Aledo Anglers competed in the state Angler of the Year event on Lake Tyler recently. The duo of Mark Cerja and Miller Hill placed 55th, while the tandem of Dominic Rigoli and Declan Lickerman tied for 90th.

Aledo tryouts set

Tryouts for the 2026-27 Aledo Bearcats and Ladycats golf teams will be at 10 a.m. on July 31 at Squaw Creek Golf Course. Cost is $20 per participant.

Those attending must:

  • Have a physical on file in RankOne or bring a hard copy.
  • Have last year’s grades and report card.
  • Bring your own golf clubs.
  • Wear collared shirts.
  • Have a knowledge of the game and rules.
  • Have your own water bottle.

The tryouts will include:

  • Short game evaluations.
  • Long game evaluations on driving range.
  • Playing nine holes walking.
  • Golf etiquette.
  • Commitment to the team for keeping up grades, travel to competition and practice.

WHS tryouts

Girls July 29, boys July 30 at Canyon West Golf Club. Participants need to bring:

  • $20 green fee (cash or check).
  • Water bottle.
  • Copy of last year’s report card.

Also:

  • Wear a collared shirt (no T-shirts or denim).
  • Have a completed physical on file in Rank One.

Format:

  • Skills testing (driving, irons, short game, putting).
  • Evaluation of golf skills, knowledge of rules and etiquette.

RODEO

WC alum named LCC head coach

Weatherford College rodeo alumnus Kodey Hoss has been named the new head rodeo coach at Lamar Community College in Colorado.

During her time at Weatherford, she qualified twice for the College National Finals Rodeo in goat tying, finishing among the nation’s top four and top seven competitors respectively. In 2022, she was a member of Weatherford College’s Women’s national championship team, helping the program capture the College National Finals Rodeo team title.
