BASEBALL

Aledo’s Nawrocki THSB Player of the Year

Lucas Nawrocki of the two-time defending state champion Aledo Bearcats has been named the Class 5A Player of the Year. The 2026 graduate, who has committed to play at LSU, posted a 12-0 pitching record with 134 strikeouts and 0.63 ERA.

At the plate he posted a; .519 average, 41 Hits, 10 home runs, 54 RBI, and scored 30 runs.

Brock players named TSWA All-State

Several members of the state runner-up Brock Eagles were named to the Texas Sports Writers Association Class 4A All-State Team recently. Senior pitcher Evan O’Connor was chosen for the first team.

Honorable mentions went to junior pitcher Weston Pickard, junior catcher Braxton Roberts, senior shortstop Canon Lightfoot, and junior third baseman Asher Strait.

Aledo Anglers Bait Blenders

Before the season gets rolling, the Aledo Anglers are hosting a morning of casting, conversation, and catching up on Aug. 22 from 9 a.m. to noon at 153 Old Tunnel Rd.

New to the team? This is the perfect way to meet your teammates and their families before the first tournament. Returning angler? Come reconnect and show the new crew the ropes.

Bring your rods, reels, tackle, drinks for the family, and a friendly attitude. Anglers, parents, siblings, and boat captains are all welcome.

Weatherford hosts Haltom, Aug. 20, 5 p.m.

TCA to open season

Trinity Christian Academy will begin its 2026 football season on the road Aug. 21 when they visit Arlington Newman International Academy. Kickoff is 7 p.m.

TCA improved to 3-7 last season in its first year under head coach Scott Campbell, the Eagles’ best season since 2020. Newman is coming off an 0-8 season.

Stars and Strides Tournament

Stars and Strides Stables Therapeutic Riding Center will hold its annual golf tournament on Sept. 17 at Canyon West Golf Course. It is the center’s largest fundraiser of the year, providing critical funding that allows them to care for therapy horses, maintain facilities, purchase specialized equipment, train instructors and offer financial assistance to families.

RODEO

WC home event set

The Weatherford College rodeo team will host its second annual Lone Star Region Rodeo Oct. 9-10 at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Arena. Competition begins at 6:30 each evening.

WHS tryouts

TENNIS

Weatherford tops Stephenville, Azle

The Weatherford Kangaroos/Lady Roos defeated Stephenville 16-3 and Azle 11-8 to improve to 3-2 this season. Game ball honors against Stephenville went to Madeline Jordan and Will Snider, while Konner Nickerson and Addy Patterson received honors against Azle.
