Volleyball workouts set to begin

Friday, Aug. 1 is the first day for volleyball teams across Texas in the University Interscholastic League to begin workouts and issue equipment. The first scrimmages can be played on Aug. 8 and the regular season can begin on Aug. 11.

The Aledo Ladycats will begin the season on Aug. 11 at Keller before traveling to the Katy ISD/Cy Fair ISD Tournament Aug. 14-16. Their first home match is Aug. 19 against Southwest Christian at 6 p.m.

The Weatherford Lady Roos will open the season at home against Cleburne on Aug. 12 at 5:30 p.m., followed by a tournament at Leander Aug. 14-16.

 

Roos Bash scheduled

Weatherford High School’s Roo Bash Community Media Day is scheduled for Aug. 16 from 9 a.m.-noon. Activities will include player poster signing, face painting, water slide, dunk tank, vendors and more.

Admission to the event at Kangaroo Stadium is free. Proceeds benefit the WHS football program.

 

GOLF

Cordary wins twice on NTPGA Junior Tour

Aledo’s Ava Cordary tied for first place twice in two days recently on the North Texas PGA Junior Tour. Competing in the Metro Tour division, she shot 84 at Waterchase Golf Course in Fort Worth on July 22, followed by shooting 87 at Hidden Creek Golf Course in Burleson on July 23.

WRESTLING

Brock’s Proctor makes history

Cash Proctor, a junior at Brock, made history for the school. He capped the first year of their wrestling program by competing in the US Marine Corps Junior Nationals in Fargo, North Dakota July 10-19.

Proctor represented Team Texas. He competed twice, and while going 0-2, the experience should help him as he enters his senior season and the team’s sophomore campaign.
