The Aledo Ladycats and Bearcats swept a pair of District 5-5A opponents last week, defeating Saginaw Chisholm Trail on Jan. 28 and Keller Fossil Ridge on Jan. 31.
Aledo (8-2 overall, 3-0 in district), which moved into the Texas Girls Coaches Association Class 5A state rankings this week at No 24, won 5-1 at home against Chisholm Trail before going on the road to post their first district shutout at Fossil Ridge with a 4-0 blanking.
Avery Sands played a key role in the shutout, moving from her regular position as defender to center back.
Ally Weimer paced the Aledo offense during the week with four goals and an assist. Other highlights were two goals and an assist from Ainsley Elmore and a goal with three assists from Katie Cox.
The Ladycats entered this week having surrendered just three goals in their past five games. One of their two losses was a 1-0 setback to Weatherford, the No. 1 team in the state in Class 6A.
Aledo was hosting Saginaw at press time and plays at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, February. 7 in Granbury.
Aledo (6-3-1, 2-1 in district) escaped Chisholm Trail on the road with a 4-3 victory. Trapper Davis scored two goals and had an assist and Austin Randriamahefa scored two goals. Calvin Gruber and Harrison Kear each had an assist.
They followed with a 2-0 home victory against Fossil Ridge. Davis and Erik Soltow each scored a goal off of a pair of assists from Kear.
Pierce Ling was the goalkeeper as the Bearcats posted their fourth shutout of the season. They have surrendered a single goal in three other games.
The Bearcats were playing at Saginaw at press time and host Granbury at 7:45 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 7.
