The Weatherford Art Association has announced the winner of Artist of the Year. Each month, WAA members can compete for first, second, and third place ribbons and the opportunity to showcase their artwork at local Weatherford banks and The Doss Heritage and Culture Center.

In June all Artists of the Month first place winners are eligible to compete for the Artist of the Year award. Images of the previous winners’ art are voted on by online proxy for the award.

Artist Amy Smith won artist of the year with her acrylic painting of orchids. This piece with its beautiful black background and glimmering white flowers draws the viewer in to look even more closely at the flower’s beauty. The reference photo for this painting was taken at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum.

Amy is an active member of the Weatherford Art Association and is a talented acrylic artist painting pet commissions, beautiful still lifes, and animals in their natural habitat.

As part of its mission as a non-profit 501 (C) (3) corporation, the Weatherford Art Association provides monthly demonstrations to increase the knowledge of its members and support arts education for the community.  Monthly meetings are held at the Senior Center, 1225 Holland Lake Drive in Weatherford from 6-7:45 p.m. on the fourth Monday of each month, except December.
