Return to the mound

Aledo’s Bradford pitching for Rangers after nearly two years

Posted

Aledo High School graduate Cody Bradford made his long-awaited return to the Texas Rangers starting rotation Aug. 5 after 679 days.

Bradford pitched 4.1 innings and gave up no runs while striking out five batters, walking two, and allowing five hits against the San Francisco Giants as the Rangers won 6-0.

He pitched seven innings Tuesday, Aug. 11, and was tagged with the loss. He gave up five hits and three earned runs, with one strikeout and one walk.

Bradford, 28, last pitched in the majors at the end of the 2024 season. A left elbow sprain to begin the 2025 season eventually led to internal brace surgery in June and a lost season as he recovered.

When the team tried to ramp him up April 2 of this season, elbow tightness further extended his recovery time that lasted three more months. After four great minor league outings, Bradford was called up to the majors.

Bradford was valedictorian when he graduated from Aledo in 2016. He played three years at Baylor University before being drafted by the Rangers in the sixth round of the 2019 draft. He made five postseason relief appearances in Texas’ run to the 2023 World Series title win 2023.
