Two members of the Aledo Ladycats golf team captured first place in their respective divisions in this year’s Fort Worth Junior Golf Association Girls Championship. The tournament was played over several courses July 15-17.

The first round was rained out, forcing Division II to be a single day at Oueste Ranch Golf Course in Weatherford. Division I was played at Squaw Creek Golf Course in Willow Park, Rivercrest Country Club in Fort Worth, and Colonial Country Club.

Incoming sophomore Sydney Purdon won the second flight in Division I with a three-day score of 271. She had individual rounds of 96, 85, and a closing 90 at Colonial.

In the 14-18 age group of Division II, incoming freshman Kylie Kirkland posted a career-best round of 3-over-par 74 to win by nine shots.

Purdon broke a three-way tie in the flight that included teammate and incoming senior Harper Price, all at 181 through two days. She won by two strokes.

Price finished with a 281 (93-88-100) to tie for third.

Players in Division I were divided into flights following the first round of play.

Also in Division I, 2025 Aledo graduate and former member of the Ladycats Reagan Gilliland placed third in the third flight. She had rounds of 92, 96, and 104 for a 292 total.

Gilliland, who has signed to play for Texas Wesleyan University in the fall, won the second flight of this tournament in 2024.

The boys tournament was being played earlier this week from July 21-24. Bearcats have won two of the past three overall tournament championships, Braden Stokes last year and Braylon Mahanay in 2022.

The annual boys and girls championship tournaments traditionally are in July and are free for all participants. There are no entry fees, no greens fees, and courses played include Fort Worth municipals and country clubs.

The tournaments are open to boys and girls ages 7 to 18. The boys tournament has been conducted since 1936 and the girls tournament since 1974.
