All of those political signs popping up in Willow Park cost money, and recent campaign finance reports reveal where that money is coming from.

There are three seats on the Willow Park City Council at stake, and cumulatively the six candidates have raised a total of $47,567.21 of reported contributions, with about half of that coming from out-of-county or out-of-state donors.

The largest haul by far has gone to Roy Kurban, who is challenging sitting council member Scott Smith for Place 4.

Kurban has received a total of 44 contributions totaling $19,100. Of the total, seven contributions totaling $1,350 came from out of state, 27 contributions totaling $16,100 came from out of the county, and 10 contributions totaling $1,650 were local.

Kurban also received the single largest contribution, $10,000 from Ronald Moore of Red Oak, more than any of the other candidates’ total contributions.

Kurban’s opponent, Scott Smith, has received 21 local contributions totaling $5,773.98 and five out-of-county contributions totaling $1,271.77.

In the race for Place 3, sitting council member Buddy Wright has received 12 local contributions totaling $3,835, six out-of-county contributions totaling $3,700, and four out-of-state contributions totaling $225.

Scott’s challenger, Houston Wingard, has self-financed his campaign to the tune of $4,254.69.

In the Place 5 race, incumbent Nathan Crummel has received $3,500 in total contributions, $2,500 form five local contributors, and $1,000 from two out-of-county contributors.

Crummel’s challenger, Marcy Galle reports $5,906 in self-financing.
