After capturing their second state title in program history — both under the guidance of head coach Chad Barry — the Aledo Bearcats baseball team saw the players earn their flowers with numerous postseason awards both at the state and individual levels.

Aledo (34-8) won District 5-5A with an unbeaten 10-0 record and a total run differential of plus 76 runs against league foes. In 40 total games overall, Aledo scored 252 total runs (6.3 runs per game) against 69 runs (1.73 runs per game) allowed, which means Aledo averaged 4.6 runs more than its opponents on average per game.

The Bearcats also tied the team record for victories in a season – previously held alone by the 2014 state champions.

Senior ace pitcher Devin Miller, who starred for the Bearcats throughout the regular season and postseason, went 4-1 during the playoffs with totals of 32 innings and 50 strikeouts against eight earned runs and 14 walks. Miller’s success earned him a spot on the Class 5A, Division I All-State first team roster and was named to the pitcher’s spot of the All-State Tournament Team.

Inside District 5-5A, Miller shared the Pitcher of the Year superlative awards with fellow senior right-hander Grayson McKelvey, who posted an 8-1 overall record, a 1.3 ERA and 72 strikeouts across 43 total innings before his postseason ended early due to an injury.

Senior designated hitter Lucas Nawrocki had a large and lasting impact during Aledo’s first title run in 11 years from his prowess at the plate. Nawrocki collected third team All-State honors and was named the MVP of the championship game win against Smithson Valley as he went 4-for-4 with a run and two RBI. The senior slugger finished with a blistering batting average of .532 with 33 total hits and 30 RBI on the year. Additionally, Nawrocki produced 11 extra-base hits and scored 16 runs.

Along with Nawrocki and Miller, senior catcher Brennon Evans, junior first baseman Dylan Duran, junior second baseman Landon Barnes, and senior shortstop Nick Foster were named to this year’s all-state roster for their respective positions. Barry and his coaching staff received the honor of top coaching staff for guiding Aledo back to the mountain top.

Barnes, Blake and Brooks Burdine, Evans, Foster, sophomore Lukle Gladchuk, junior pitcher Luke Sandefur, and senior outfielder Luke Trager received first team recognition in this year’s District 5-5A awards. Meanwhile, Duran and senior third baseman Noah Graham were named to the second team.
