The No. 1 Aledo Ladycats volleyball team continued its winning ways following the team’s bye week in a Friday-night matchup at Saginaw. The Ladycats solidified their standing at the top of District 5-5A Region I with a straight-sets win over Saginaw by a final score of 25-19, 25-9, and 25-10.

Aledo (35-2, 10-0) won its 18th consecutive match and has only dropped six total sets — all against non-league opponents — throughout the streak. The Ladycats’ star outside hitters, Alyssa Todd and Kaelee Berkley, helped Aledo gain separation and establish offensive rhythm as did the middle attack, led by senior Karsyn Trott. The Ladycats got stronger as the match went on, winning by a combined 31 points in the final two sets.

On the subvarsity level, the ninth grade A team (25-9, 25-11) and the JV (25-14, 25-15) won in straight sets to complete the program sweep.

Todd led the varsity squad with team-highs in kills (15), digs (17), and aces (three). Berkley added 12 kills, 13 digs, and a block while Trott added seven kills. Senior setters Sophie Frank and Kailey Hamilton combined for 18 digs. Hamilton had two aces and 10 assists while Frank recorded 21 assists. Kenley Hamilton finished with three aces and 10 digs while senior middle Lily Lufkin anchored the front line defense with five blocks. Payton Patrick also contributed out of the middle with three kills, five digs, and two blocks. Junior libero Karsyn Evans tallied seven digs and two aces while Brynleigh Schneider also contributed with a block.

The Ladycats will conclude their regular season at 6 p.m. Friday at home against Chisholm Trail.
