Nash McElree is leaving the Aledo Bearcats football program and heading west to Mission Viejo, California. The senior-to-be was considered to be a strong candidate to battle for the starting quarterback position as Aledo enters its first season in Class 6A.

McElree had been on the Bearcats varsity since his sophomore season of 2024. He played primarily in a backup role, with some starting time.

In 2025 he completed 68 of 105 passes (65%) for 931 yards with 10 touchdowns and three interceptions. He was also a solid threat on the ground, rushing for 203 yards on 35 carries with two touchdowns and a long run of 46 yards.

As a sophomore, McElree completed 37 of 49 passes (76%) for 500 yards with seven TD and two interceptions, along with rushing 22 times for 75 yards.

The McElrees are originally from Central Valley in California. They moved to Aledo during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.

As of 2024 his dad still ran a construction company based in California.

Their family sports heritage also includes California. Their dad played basketball at University of California Davis and their grandfather played football at Cal Poly.

Mission Viejo is a perennial power in California. The Diablos are consistently in the national rankings and have won several state championships, most recently in 2023.

Nash has an older, Ben, who is entering his sophomore season playing linebacker for Mary Hardin-Baylor. He registered 19 tackles in nine games for the Crusaders as a freshman.

Ben was a member of the Bearcats varsity from 2023-25. He played for Tim Buchanan, who won his last state championship as a coach in 2022 before retiring, and he played for Robby Jones in 2023, who won state in his first season as a head coach.

Jones did not respond to an attempt for a comment for this story.
