Mach I leads way at association meet

Qualifies 23 for regionals

Posted

Continuing a tradition of great summer performances, the Mach I Track Club qualified 23 athletes from the recent USA Track and Field association meet in Arlington to the regional meet going on at Clark Stadium in Fort Worth at press time.

The top eight finishers in each event at association competition qualified for regionals. From there, the top five in each event will move on to nationals in Eugene, Oregon the final week of July.

“It was really crazy because of rain delays,” Mach I coach Lupe Torres said of the association meet.

In all, Mach I runners captured nine gold medals, five silver and four bronze.

Leading the way was Gannon Dolan with a pair of gold medals in the Boys 15-16 1500-meter and 3000-meter runs. Dolan won a national championship and set a national record last season in winning the 3000 in the Boys 13-14 division with a time of 8 minutes, 59 seconds. His time at association this year was 9:18.90.

Also winning two gold medals was Ty Williams in the Boys 13-14 800 and 1500, along with a silver medal in the 3000. Gannon’s younger brother, Malachi, won gold in the Boys 8-Under 1500 and 800.

Also at the meet, running for Athletic Performance, Aledo’s Sarah Tillotson won the Girls 17-18 1500 with a time of 5:10.76 and was second in the 800 in 2:18.17.
