Paced by 14 kills each from senior outside hitter Amanda Norman and senior middle Emily Smith, the Aledo Ladycats swept the Eaton Lady Eagles, 25-19, 25-15, 25-19 Friday night in a District 6-5A volleyball match at Eaton High School.
The win raises the Ladycats' district mark to 10-1, while Eaton falls to 4-7. Aledo remains in a first-place tie with Boswell, a winner in four games Friday over Northwest.
"We didn't trail much in the match, but we weren't sharp," Ladycats head coach Kathy Goings said. "We started out a bit flat, but that sometimes happens after a big win (over Boswell on Tuesday). But we had a couple of players who really shined tonight.
"Emily is getting stronger and stronger each week. It has taken her awhile to get back to full strength (Smith missed most of last season with a knee injury), but she has put in a lot of time in the weight room and she is elevating higher each week. She is also swinging on the ball very well.
"Amanda also had a very strong match. She had good shot selection, and I thought she did a good job placing the ball. And Brecken (Roquemore) and Sarah (Haeussler) both put up good blocks."
Senior hitter Maddie Goings recorded a match-high 23 digs to go along with eight kills; senior setter Erin Weiss produced a match-high 46 assists and added 16 digs; and junior libero Allegra Rivas finished with 19 kills.
In sub-varsity action, the Ladycats junior varsity remains undefeated in district play after a 23-25, 25-18, 25-20 win, but the freshman ladies fell, 14-25, 25-12, 24-26.
