The Ladycats beat the Lady Bears 17-6 after five innings to end a cold and windy night early.
Aledo came into the game with a 6-0 district record, having outscored its opponents 75-2 and won by run-rule in four of the six games.
The closest game was against Brewer back at the beginning of March, a game the Ladycats won 5-0 with a certain amount of control, but not nearly as dominant as they have been playing since.
Aledo wanted to show what the rest of the district had seen since then, with all games seeing the Ladycats scoring 10 or more runs.
Aledo went to work in the first inning. Delaney Rosser led off with a single. She advanced to second base on a passed ball before Tempe Perry drove her in with a single as the Ladycats were on the board after only two batters.
Aledo was not done. In the same inning, following a fly out to center field, Rylee Marx hit a single to put runners at the corners. The Ladycats then executed a beautiful double-steal, with Marx being safe at second base despite the Lady Bears’ attempt to throw her out. This allowed Perry to come in and score with little trouble.
Following another fly out for out two, Kayleigh Martin came up to bat and smashed a ball over the left field fence for a two-run home run, her second in as many games.
It made the score 4-0 for Aledo before Brewer had come up to bat.
The Lady Bears were not just going to lay down. They scored two runs themselves, one on a single and another on a wild pitch to cut the lead to 4-2.
In the second inning, the Ladycats had leadoff Jordyn Edington draw a walk. After she stole second base, Rosser laid down a bunt and thanks to an error not only was Rosser safe, but Edington was able to come in and score.
Aledo loaded the bases with a walk and single, but a batter grounded into a force out at home for out one. Brooklynn Taoloa then flew out to center field, but it was deep enough for one run to come in. Unfortunately, Brewer was able to double up and complete a double-lay by getting the runner out at second base. The Ladycats led 6-2.
The third inning saw Aledo really pull away. Again, the team loaded the bases with no outs, but was able to make the most of it this time around.
Edington hit an RBI single. Rosser followed with a two RBI single. Perry flew out to left field, but it was deep enough for another runner to come in and score. Kyleigh Pawlak then hit an RBI triple. Marx followed with a fly ball to left field that resulted in an error that allowed another run to come in.
The Ladycats had opened up the lead now up 12-2.
Still, Brewer showed some life with its bats. A rare fielding error from Aledo in the infield allowed one run to score. Later in the inning with a runner on third and two outs, the Lady Bears came through with an RBI single, making the score 12-4.
In the fourth inning Aledo put more runs on the board. With the bases loaded once again and one out, Pawlak flew out to center field but drove in one run. Next batter Marx drove in the other two base runners with a double. The Ladycats led 15-4.
Brewer answered by hitting a two-run home run, cutting the lead to 15-6 heading into the fifth inning.
Aledo needed to score at least one run to match the 10-run margin needed for the game to be called a run-rule, which kicks in after the fifth inning.
The Ladycats came through, sparking a two-out rally as Mayer and Edington got on base with a double and a walk. Rosser came through with a single that drove in both base runners to put Aledo up 17-6.
The Lady Bears needed to score two runs in return to avoid getting run-ruled, but despite another fielding error with two outs, Aledo held on for the final out to earn the early run-rule victory so players and fans could get out of the cold.
Rosser led the team with four RBIs and three hits. Perry, Pawlak, Marx and Martin each drove in two runs as well. As a team, the Ladycats finished with 15 hits, four walks and four stolen bases.
On the mound, Perry pitched all five innings and allowed six runs, four earned runs, on six hits while striking out four and walking three. The defense committed two fielding errors.
Despite the runs given up, Coach Heather Myers complemented Perry’s performance on the mound, thinking the strike zone she had to deal with caused her more issues than the batters and complimented her maturity to deal with that.
Myers thought her team’s preparation for Brewer’s pitcher showed well.
“Our bats were hot,” Myers said. “We worked really hard because we thought we would see (Cozette Tyson) on the mound tonight to start. We worked on her specific pitches she throws so I feel they came prepared and it showed on the field.”
Aledo improves to 7-0 in district and had Tuesday night off. The Ladycats are next scheduled to play at 7 p.m. on April 7 at Fossil Ridge.
