Ladycats pounce on Cleburne

It’s been a busy week for Aledo’s Ladycats basketball squad. After playing five games in three days during the Burleson Tournament and securing a third-place finish in the process, the Ladycats returned to their regularly scheduled contest on Tuesday, Dec. 5, with a 48-34 win on the road in Cleburne. 

Coming off a string of performances that earned them all-tournament honors, Elizabeth Griffin and Kinley Elms went right back to work against the Lady Yellowjackets on Tuesday. The duo led the Ladycats in scoring on the night, with 12 points and 10 points, respectively, to their credit.

Aledo came out to a hot start in the first quarter, as they put the home team in an early hole. The Ladycats controlled both ends of the floor, scoring at will on their end while shutting down Cleburne’s offense on the other. Through the first eight minutes of action, Aledo held a nine-point advantage over their host, 15-6.

The pace slowed dramatically in quarter number two. The two teams combined to post just 10 points in the second stanza with Aledo leading 21-10 at the break.

Coming out of the locker room to start the second half, the Ladycats went back to work. For the third quarter in a row, they outpaced the Lady Yellowjackets, increasing their lead to 37-16 with just eight minutes left in the game.

The hosting Lady Yellowjackets more than doubled their production for the game in the fourth quarter, as they put up 18 points in the final eight minutes of action. However, it was too little, too late as Aledo went on to win by 14.

The Ladycats will return to action on Friday when they hit the road once again. They’ll travel to Brock where they will take on the Lady Eagles in the final matchup before the start of district play next week. 

Tipoff for Friday’s contest in Brock is slated for 6:15 p.m.
