Ladycats off to postseason as No. 2 seed

Despite ending the regular season with a 3-2 upset loss at home to Granbury Friday, March 10, the Aledo Ladycats will enter the playoffs as the No. 2 seed from District 5-5A. In fact, they had that position secured before facing a Lady Pirates squad that was in a must-win situation to seal their own playoff berth.

The Ladycats (15-6-2 overall) were second in league play with a 9-3 record, trailing only Wichita Falls Rider. They will face Fort Worth North Side, the third-place team from District 6-5A, in bidistrict March 24 at 6 p.m. at Clark Stadium in Fort Worth, part of a doubleheader with the boys teams from the same schools meeting after.

Before their bidistrict game, the Ladycats will meet Waxahachie Life in a warmup match Monday, March 20 in Aledo following a boys matchup of the same two schools that starts at 6 p.m.. Both games will be at Bearcat Stadium.

“I feel the team is playing well. A break will be good,” Ladycats coach Bryan Johnson said.

Both the girls and boys are off all this week for spring break.

The Ladycats led the Lady Pirates 1-0 at the half.

Reagan Krajca scored a goal and had an assist for Aledo, while Jourdan Hart also scored a goal. Emaree Gibson also had an assist.

Prior to the loss to Granbury the Ladycats had outscored their previous four opponents 16-1. In an earlier meeting Granbury on Valentine’s Day Aledo won 3-0.

The Ladycats have eight shutouts this season and have surrendered one goal or less in 16 contests.
