The Ladycats won 15-0 against the Lady Roughriders in three innings with Lily Heckathorn pitching a perfect game, and later won 15-1 against the Lady Pirates in five innings.
Aledo came into the game at home against Saginaw with a lot of energy and got going straight away. In the first inning Tempe Perry hit an RBI single followed by Kyleigh Pawlak driving her in next at-bat.
A few batters later Brylee Gray drove in a run on a single. Later, Kellyn Overturff drove in a run on a single, but was able to advance to third base thanks to an error on the throw. A couple of batters later Jordyn Edington hit an infield fly ball that resulted in an error that allowed two runs to score. Aledo led 6-0 after one inning.
The Ladycats did not let up in the second inning. Perry scored on the base paths and later Brooklynn Taloa hit a sacrifice fly ball to extend Aledo’s lead to 8-0.
In the third inning, the Ladycats got on another big roll and decided to end the game there.
Ednington hit an RBI single. Delaney Rosser drove her in with an RBI double. Later Pawlak drove in a run with a single.
A couple of batters later, Autumn Gudel hit an RBI single. Pawlak later scored on the base paths before Kayleigh Martin hit an RBI double. One batter later Overturff’s fly ball to center field resulted in an error that allowed Martin to score the last run of the game.
With Aledo up 15-0 in the third inning, the game ended due to run-rule.
Pawlak led the team with two RBI. There were eight different players that drove in at least one run. As a team, the Ladycats ended with 14 hits, drew two walks, and stole 10 bases.
On the mound, Lily Heckathorn not only pitched a perfect game, but struck out all nine batters she faced, a feat rarely seen at any level.
Aledo later traveled to play at Granbury earlier this week. While the game went a couple more innings, there were arguably more offensive fireworks as several players hit home runs.
In the first inning, Perry got things going with an RBI single. She was followed by Pawlak hitting a two-run home run over the left field fence. Coming right on her heels was Marx who bombed a solo home run over the same left field as Aledo led 4-0 as well as made an intimidating statement.
In the second inning, Rosser’s fly ball to right field resulted in an error that allowed two runs to score. A couple of batters later, Pawlak hit a sacrifice fly ball that drove in one run. With the bases empty, Marx hit her second solo home run of the game.
Two batters later, with a runner on first base, Taloa hit a two-run home run to put Aledo up 10-0.
The last bomb of the game came in the third inning with Breleigh Mayer leading off and hitting a solo home run over the center field fence.
A few batters later Kennedy Cardenas hit a single to right field, but an error on the throw into the infield allowed one run to score as Aledo led 12-0.
The Ladycats had a rare scoreless fourth inning before the Lady Pirates got on the board later in the inning. With two runners on base, a fly out to left field for out two was followed by an error on the throw back into the infield that allowed the lead runner to come in and score. Granbury cut the lead to 12-1.
The Aledo bats got going again in the fifth inning as Gudel hit a sacrifice fly ball that drove in one run. A couple of batters later Gigi Martinez hit an RBI single before she was followed by Taloa hitting an RBI triple.
The Ladycats held on to win 15-1 after five innings due to run-rule.
Pawlak and Taloa each had two RBIs and hit home runs during the game. Marx hit two solo home runs and along with Mayer, who also hit a solo home run, led the team with three hits. As a team, Aledo finished with 18 hits, with nine being extra base hits including five home runs.
On the mound, Marx pitched all five innings and allowed one hit, one run, zero earned runs, while striking out 10 batters.
Coach Heather Myers thought her team played well in both blowouts as they start preparing for harder challenges in the postseason with only one district game left to play.
“They hustled out of the box regardless of how hard the ball was hit, forced difficult plays on the defenses and continued to play solid defense themselves,” Myers said. “We want to continue to play clean softball, being mentally tough to move past any error quickly and effortlessly. We as coaches are very proud of their hard work and discipline so far this season.”
Aledo is scheduled to wrap up district at 7 p.m. on April 17 at home against Azle.
