Posted

Continuing to run the gauntlet of tough competition to start the season, the Aledo Ladycats won three, lost three, and tied a game last week, which including six games in the Mansfield Tournament Feb. 23-25.

“We definitely have been playing high caliber teams of late. These games are meant to expose our weaknesses, and we feel that's just what they have done,” Ladycats coach Heather Myers said.

“We are excited to focus on these things and work through them so that we can be better as we move forward in our season. Very thankful to have a team who wants to compete against some of the best. They are gritty to say the least.”

The Ladycats, 9-4-1 on the season, have played a schedule that has included some of the top teams in Texas, including numerous at the Class 6A level. The Ladycats are hoping such a schedule will result in getting one more victory at state this season, and with it a championship.

Two years ago Aledo fell in the state final and last season they lost in the semifinals.

Prior to the tournament last week, the Ladycats made a trip to Waco Midway to face the No. 6 ranked Class 6A team in the state. They let a 5-3 lead slip away late in a 6-5 loss.

In the tournament, Aledo began with an 11-1 win over V.R. Eaton, followed by a two-hit shutout by pitcher Nathalie Touchet in an 8-0 win over Burleson on Thursday. Friday, they dropped a 4-2 contest to Keller and tied Mansfield 4-4. Saturday, Touchet pitched a three-hitter in a 10-3 victory against Boswell before Mansfield Lake Ridge blanked the Ladycats 7-0 on a one-hitter by their pitcher Avery Hoang.

The Ladycats made short work of visiting Wichita Falls Rider Tuesday, Feb. 28, winning their District 5-5A opener 18-1 behind the two-hit pitching of Touchet and four hits each from Addie Perry and Maddy Jarvis.
