Impact fees to increase

Community Center renaming discussed

Posted

The City of Aledo adopted an ordinance to increase the impact fees charged to developers for new water and wastewater connections at its regular city council meeting on Feb. 19.

The fee increase, effective Oct. 1, is due to the City of Aledo being a wholesale water customer of the City of Fort Worth. Under the Uniform Wholesale Water Agreement, all wholesale customers must adopt the same water and wastewater impact fee rates approved by Fort Worth. Therefore, the City of Aledo must update its impact fee collection rate in order to remain compliant with Fort Worth’s adopted rates.

The council renewed the city’s agreement with the Weatherford Mountain Bike Club (WMBC), extending their partnership with a three-year term beginning on March 1, 2026 and ending Mar. 1, 2029. The WMBC preforms trail construction, maintenance, mowing, brush clearing, and signage installation with required approvals, all of which will enhance Aledo’s current trail system, including The Pit.

The City will provide periodic inspections and oversight in order to maintain city standards. This is the first renewal of the agreement between the City of Aledo and the WMBC and will have no financial impact on the city’s current budget.

The council also held a discussion regarding the possibility of renaming the Aledo Community Center at the request of Parker County Commissioner Mike Hale. Commissioner Hale submitted renaming it as the Terry Hyles Community Center. Hyles previously served as president of the Aledo Park and Community Center that donated the facility and the property to the City of Aledo.

Council member Todd Covington suggests more background research about the Aledo Community Center and families involved. This led to the consensus of council and staff that procedures and criteria should be established regarding the renaming of city properties. City Manager Candice Edmondson and City Secretary Staci King have already researched the ownership timeline of the community center. The renaming suggestion will be tabled until city staff has created policies and procedures for future renaming of any city properties.

The March 19, 2026 regular city council meeting will be cancelled due to AISD Spring Break occurring that week.
