The 2023-24 hoops campaign was a significant improvement over last season for the varsity Ladycats. After finishing with a .500 record overall and in district a year ago, Aledo’s queens of the court finished the season 28-10 overall this season. Their 10-2 record in District 5-5A earned them a No. 2 seed in the playoffs where they captured a bi-district title with a win over the Wyatt Chaparrals on Feb. 12.
One of the things that made the season so spectacular for the Ladycats was their youth. With only a pair of seniors on the team scheduled to graduate this May, the team should be set up nicely to build upon the success from this season into next year.
With success comes recognition. Eight Ladycats have been named to this year’s all-district team. Freshman Brooklyn Dempsey was named District Newcomer of the Year.
Junior starting center Kinley Elms and sophomore point guard, Elizabeth Griffin, both received first team honors.
Seniors Natalie Anderson and Caroline Browning were joined by junior Ella Isbell in their bid for second-team all-district honors. Sophomore Brenna Clock and junior August Carlone received honorable mention status.
