Home tour puts local history on display

Candlelight Tour of Homes is Dec. 10

The Parker Country Heritage Society will present the 39th Annual Candlelight Tour of Homes which showcases Weatherford’s rich history and heritage from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, Dec10.

The Parker County Heritage Society is dedicated to the preservation of local historical treasures. The 2022 tour will highlight five historical homes built between 1889 and 1947, featuring a wide variety of homes including a Victorian style home built in 1893 and an 1892 Queen Anne Victorian Home which was designed for George S. and Helen Belle White by the famous Victorian architect George F. Barber of Knoxville, Tennessee. 

There will also be a Victorian style farmhouse-built between 1889 - 1900 and a farmhouse-style home built after World War II. and lastly a lovely Tuscan style home. 

In addition, the society has added the historical Parker County Courthouse and All Saints’ Anglican Church, which came into existence in July 1875.  

“These homes are more than just a place to live; they are a living history that you can be a part of,” said Laura Roberts, Parker County Heritage Vice President and co-chair of this event. “They have legacy, quirkiness, past and present owners, unique architectural features, and secrets.” 

Adding to the tour, the Doss Heritage and Culture Center will have on display “Hand Crocheted Doilies” which, according to the Texas Crochet Heritage, tells stories of the women who created them. There will be activities for the children, Pioneer Cabin Park will be open, and Santa will be at the cabins from 2-4 p.m. The Chandor Gardens grounds only will be open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The house will not be on the tour.

Tickets for the tour are $20 for adults and $12 for children 12 and younger. Tickets can be purchased at two Weatherford locations: the Doss Heritage and Culture Center, 1400 Texas Drive, or the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, 410 Fort Worth Hwy.
