Hejny on the move again

Former Bearcat QB back in transfer portal

Posted

Former Aledo Bearcat Hauss Hejny will be playing with his third college football team in three years come the 2026 fall season. The quarterback announced his decision to enter the transfer portal following his only season with Oklahoma State.

Hejny saw very little action with the Cowboys (1-11) this season despite being the starting quarterback at the beginning. He injured his foot in the first quarter of the season opener, a 27-7 victory against Tennessee-Martin and never returned as the Cowboys then lost 11 straight.

Hejny was 5-of-10 passing for 96 yards and a touchdown. He also rushed four times for 27 yards.

Hejny’s decision comes after playing for two coaches at OSU in 2025. Mike Gundy was fired after 21 seasons following the Cowboys’ 1-2 start to the season. Former TCU assistant Doug Meacham, who Hejny followed to OSU, took over and was 0-9 for the rest of the season.

OSU then hired Eric Morris, who led North Texas to a 12-2 record and the best season in Mean Green history. His quarterback for the historic 2025 season, Drew Mestemaker, has also transferred to OSU.

Hejny played for the TCU Horned Frogs as a true freshman. While he did not throw a pass, he played in four games, rushing for 65 yards on 15 carries. His best outing was when he rushed for 48 yards in a win over Cincinnati — his final game with TCU as he did not play in their 34-3 New Mexico Bowl victory.

The Horned Frogs were 2-2 in games in which Hejny played.

Hejny originally committed to play for Duke while still with the Bearcats. He then switched his commitment to TCU, where both of his parents played. His father, Jesse Hejny, played on the defensive line for TCU and his mother JimAnne played basketball and ran track.

Efforts to reach Hejny for a comment were unsuccessful. On his Instagram site, he posted:

“After much reflection and prayer, I have decided to enter the transfer portal with four years of eligibility remaining.”

He thanked his teammates and the OSU coaches.

“Stillwater is a special place and I want to take the time to let the fans and the community know how grateful I am for their support,” he added. “I am excited to explore new opportunities and continue to compete at the highest level.”

Hejny quarterbacked the Bearcats to back-to-back state championships in 2022 and 2023.
