Aledo ISD School Board member Hoyt Harris has announced that he will not seek re-election in the upcoming municipal and school board election in May.
“When my current term concludes this May, I will step aside allowing new leadership to continue the important work of guiding our exceptional school district,” Harris said in a note to the community.
Harris has served both as a board member and as president of the school board during his tenure, which began in 2011.
He told The Community News that all of his children have completed their studies in Aledo ISD, and that he felt it would be a good time to step down. In addition, he said there are many experienced members on the board, which would make this a good time to bring in someone new.
He said it has been an honor to serve.
“Together with my fellow Trustees, dedicated administrators, teachers, support staff, and our remarkable students and families, we have worked tirelessly to maintain and strengthen Aledo ISD as one of the finest public school districts in Texas. From navigating challenging times to celebrating academic achievements, athletic successes, fine arts excellence, and the daily growth of our Bearcats, this community has consistently demonstrated what it means to be #AllinAledo.”
