Gray eighth in state

Aledo’s Avery Gray finished eighth in the state in the 259-plus division at the Texas High School Women’s Powerlifting Association Class 5A Division I Girls State Powerlifting Meet at the Comerica Center in Frisco, Saturday, March 18.

Gray lifted a total of 795 pounds. She had a squat lift of 320 pounds, bench pressed 175 and had a dead lift of 300.

Also qualifying for Aledo was Adrianna Lambert in the 220 division but she scratched from competition.

Aledo also had several athletes named academic all-state by the THSWPA. Arianna Schmidt, Taylor Paetzold and Taylor Sehnem were named to the elite team, Taylor Hart garnered first-team honors and Jackie Melendez and Meredith Brown were selected for the second team.
