Gordy, the only graduating senior in the program, has qualified for state in two seasons as part of the 200 and 400-yard relays. She is also on the program’s record board as part of those same two events.
This season, she is a captain of the team. She represented her team well on this night, capturing three silver medals and a bronze as Aledo finished second behind Fort Worth Paschal and ahead of Burleson, Joshua, and Fort Worth Southwest.
Gordy was runner-up individually in the 100 freestyle, along with placing third in the 200 free. She swam on the 200 and 400 free relays that each finished second.
“Julia is the heart of our program this year. Her leadership, work ethic, and genuine connection with her teammates makes everyone better in and out of the water,” coach Meghan Roberson said. “Her presence — and perfect playlists — will be deeply missed on deck next year.”
Gordy, who began swimming at the age of three, said some of her favorite memories of being on the swim team include “Going to state with all my friends sophomore and junior years, our girls ice cream trips, and after practice Chick-Fil-A.”
Then, she added with a smile, “I will miss all my teammates and my coach, but I definitely will not miss the early wake-ups.”
Gordy said her college plans include studying business and finance. She also thanked coach Roberson “with all my heart.”
“Having her in my corner throughout the years has helped me so much, and I’m truly grateful for all of the support and love that she has given me,” she said.
In all, Aledo swimmers captured 26 medals (14 girls, 12 boys). This included five gold (3 girls, 2 boys), 14 silver (8 girls, 6 boys), and seven bronze (boys 4, girls 3).
Winning two individual gold medals was Mackenzie Oligschlaeger in the girls 200 free and 100 free. Sydni Kellam took first in the girls 100 backstroke.
Kale Roberson won the individual boys 500 freestyle and swam a leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay.
Aledo will wrap up the regular season in the District 5-5A Meet at the Northwest ISD Natatorium in Justin on Jan. 24. From there, the top six finishers in each event will advance to the University Interscholastic League Region II Meet in Mansfield Feb. 6-7.
Joining Aledo in the 5-5A Meet will be Azle, Chisholm Trail, Granbury, Saginaw, Wichita Falls Legacy, and Wichita Falls Memorial.
