In the spirit of National Gardening Month, the City of Aledo hosted two community gardening events, Tiny Gardeners at Work and Let’s Get Growing: Vegetable Gardening & Propagation Workshop.

Master gardeners Nicole Witmer, Jane Bessolo, Sharon Abner, and Terry Barton from the Parker County Master Gardener Association, a non-profit volunteer gardening and education group, led Tiny Gardeners at Work on April 21 at the Aledo Community Center.

“The fun, hands-on class is designed especially for kids to explore how plants grow and spark a love of gardening,” according to the City of Aledo Facebook page.

Educational lessons and activities are shared with the kids to teach them about the parts of a plant and how to plant seeds. After interactive storytelling from Witmer, the kids colored pages, chose seeds, and planted their own plants to take home.

Adults joined the fun on Saturday, April 25, at the Let’s Get Growing: Vegetable Gardening & Propagation Workshop.

The event, open to anyone, at the Aledo Municipal Complex included “a 90‑minute, two‑topic presentation on vegetable gardening, followed by a hands‑on plant propagation session where participants learned practical techniques and propagated plants to take home,” according to the City of Aledo Facebook page.

The hands-on workshops brought community members together to celebrate National Gardening Month, build confidence in gardening, and develop skills for people of all experience levels.
