The Friends of Aledo Public Library held their Annual General Meeting on Wednesday, September 24 at the library, with a small number of library patrons in attendance. The meeting was chaired by Cathy Mason, who has long been involved with the library, and helped with the transition of the library from a non-profit, tax exempt organization, to become a department of the City of Aledo. Ms. Mason presented updated By-Laws for the attendees to review, and these were adopted by a majority vote. It was agreed that meetings of the Friends would be held quarterly and future dates were set. The main focus for the Friends will be fundraising to support the non-operational needs of the library which may include items such as storage, early childhood furniture, program materials, and books. Potential fundraising opportunities were also discussed and included participating in the Library Giving Day in April and the North Texas Giving Day in September, a Holiday themed Book Fair, and used book sales. Friends of Aledo Public Library membership forms are available at the library.
