In a season that saw the Aledo Bearcats powerlifting program qualify seven lifters for the Class 5A Division I State Meet at the Taylor County Expo Center in Abilene on March 28, senior Anthony Flowers had the best performance of all. Competing in the 242-pound division, he placed fourth with a total weight of 1,690 pounds lifted.

Flowers had a squat lift of 605 pounds, a bench press of 515 and a deadlift of 570.

Two other senior Bearcats cracked the top 10 in their respective weight classes, both in the 275 weight class. Kruger Summers was sixth, lifting 1,675 (630 squat, 500 bench, 545 deadlift), and Roland Krieger lifted 1,590 (610 squat, 455 bench, 525 squat) for 10th.

All seven Aledo lifters competed each of their lifts with no one “bombing out,” which is the term for when a lifter cannot complete their attempted weights.

Also for the Bearcats, senior Chase Wilburn finished 12th in the 220 division with 1,555 pounds lifted. Senior Brady Powell was 14th in the 198 division with 1,400, freshman Jayden Schram took 15th in the 114 class with 560 and senior Seth Knott placed 23rd in the 220 class with 1,385.

“Great bunch!” exclaimed Aledo coach Brad McCone. “The seniors will be missed.”
